The genesis of a dynasty: The 1991 NBA champion Chicago Bulls reminisce on Saturday in Chicago.
At half-time of the Bulls game against Utah in Chicago on Saturday, the Bulls organization celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Chicago Bulls first-ever NBA championship. It was Michael Jordan’s first title as well as the Bulls steamrolled past the Knicks and Sixers before gaining a full measure of revenge against arch-rival Detroit in the Eastern Conference Finals…
The combination of Jordan, Scottie Pippen and Horace Grant was huge two decades ago as the threesome defeated Magic Johnson’s Los Angeles Lakers in the Finals 4 games to 1 to begin head coach Phil Jackson’s rise as the greatest winning coach in NBA history and Chicago’s ascension as Team of the 90′s…
Big Cliff Levingston was a key member of that Bulls team off the bench as well. Hard to believe its been twenty years since Jordan’s first title. Those of us who witnessed Jordan’s entire career wondered early on if he’d ever win a championship. The Bulls superstar not only beat Magic for the title in 1991, he went on win 5 more titles in a double trifecta fashion to become arguably the greatest player in NBA history.
But Saturday, it was Jordan’s ringing endorsement of the current Bulls team that may indeed inspire Derrick Rose and company to similar heights like that of their Chicago predecessors two decades before.
History does have a way of repeating itself.
