Cruz sets his sights on a Super Bowl ring with the Giants after completing hometown-hero-makes-good story.

Hometown New York Giants hero VICTOR CRUZ received a big-time send off for the Big Game in his native Paterson, NJ on Saturday, with a pep rally that was hosted by Congressman BILL PASCRELL…

The 25-year old Cruz attended Paterson Catholic High School, in an impoverished town short on success stories but long on dreams. After a stellar college football career at UMass, Cruz signed with the Giants as an undrafted free agent in the 2010 NFL draft. Now he is the toast of the town…that is, New York City as well as Paterson.

“It’s really starting to sink in — how rare my story is and how far I’ve come,” Cruz told NorthJersey.com recently.

“Every step of the way I just tried to play my hardest and whatever opportunity came my way, I just tried to take advantage of it,” Cruz continued. “I understood that opportunities were going to come few and far between, and when that small window opens for me I have to jump right through it and make sure I seize that moment and that opportunity. Thank God I have.”

He and his Giants certainly have. Now the Salsa Sensation looks to seize a Super Bowl trophy. Next weekend, that feat may be one good Afro-Cuban rousing rumba end zone dance step away.
