A floor general and a gentleman, Fisher was the steadying voice during 5 NBA titles in LA. OKC may be his sixth.

I think I speak for most of LakerNation when I say DEREK FISHER has left an indelible impression in the hearts and minds of Laker lifers everywhere. So it was that the 5-time NBA champion returned to Staples Center Thursday night as a member of the OKC Thunder (weird, but true) amid a rousing tribute and standing ovation from the Tinseltown crowd…

This was the D-Fish video tribute presented on the big screen before the game…

You gotta give it up for this guy. Fisher was to the modern version of Lakers what Michael Cooper was to the 1980′s version: That key piece to the championship puzzle that is undeniable and so essential to success. You likely won’t see a D-Fish jersey hanging from the rafters at Staples Center (as you do not see Cooper’s), but Laker fans know how vital this Lil’ Engine That Could from Little Rock, Arkansas was to the three-peat title teams of the early 2000′s and the most recent Laker repeat title teams of 2009-2010.

As clutch as they come, Fisher always saved his most dramatic performances for the playoffs with last minute daggers and killer treys that put many a frown on Laker haters faces. The sands in the hour glass are slipping away on Fisher’s tenure in the NBA now but he still feels capable of producing a bit more playoff thunder.

This spring, Fisher may have yet another memorable shot or key play to make that will dramatically paint the picture in another NBA title run.

If so, the superstar decoys will not be named Shaq, Bynum or Kobe but Durant and Westbrook. And Laker fans can’t be especially thrilled about that.
