Look of a champion: Serena Williams displays the winners trophy Saturday at Wimbledon, her fifth such award.

It’s been a long, arduous journey back to greatness for SERENA WILLIAMS. Yet on Saturday at Centre Court in front of the world, against challenger AGNIESZKA RADWANSKA of Poland, Williams completed her journey back to Grand Slam champion, winning her fifth Wimbledon title 6-1, 5-7, 6-2.
“Coming here and winning today is amazing,” Serena said. “It’s been an unbelievable journey for me.”
The highlight of the women’s Wimbledon final occurred in the third set as Williams showed she was on top of her game delivering four straight aces against Radwanska…
Radwanska obviously had no answer for those serves.
“So many aces,” said Radwanska, in complete awe. “And I couldn’t do much about it.”
After all Serena has been through over the last two years suffering several health scares and a fainting love for the sport, it’s good to see Williams able to overcome her struggles and return to top form, winning at the game that she has rediscovered a passion for. Saturday’s victory was Serena’s 14th major title overall.
Serena’s mom Oracene Price summed up Serena’s two-year odyssey best.
“You never appreciate anything until you almost lose it,” the proud mother said.
No doubt about that.
