Philly Eagles coach Andy Reid is dealing with a heartbreaking family tragedy on the eve of the NFL preseason.

Tragedy has struck the Philadelphia Eagles training camp. Garrett Reid, 29-year old son of Eagles head coach ANDY REID, was found dead Sunday morning in his room at the team’s training camp at Leigh University.

Leigh police chief Edward Shupp said Garrett Reid was found deceased upon a policeman’s arrival at the dorm after a 911 call was made at 7:20am. Shupp suspects no foul play as the cause of Reid’s death is being investigated.

Garrett Reid was serving as an assistant to the Eagles’ strength and conditioning coach at the time of his death.

You may recall in 2007, Coach Reid had to take a leave of absence from the Eagles to deal with sons Garrett and younger brother Britt’s drug charges stemming from an arrest for a traffic incident. Garrett Reid was sent to jail off and on through 2009 in relation to those drug charges.

Reid, who once reveled in the role of being a drug dealer, told a judge during sentencing: ”I don’t want to die doing drugs. I don’t want to be that kid who was the son of the head coach of the Eagles, who was spoiled and on drugs and OD’d and just faded into oblivion.”

Depending upon the police findings, those words may prove prophetic in the case of Garrett Reid’s death.

Our condolences go out to Andy Reid and his family during this difficult time.
