Saints Alive: After a shaky start, Brees was clutch, eluding Trent Cole and the Eagles just enough to snatch victory.

A new year can certainly provide a fresh start. Just ask the New Orleans Saints, who mimicked the change of the calendar with an alteration in franchise playoff fortune by outlasting the Eagles, 26-24 Saturday in the NFC Wild Card Game. Quarterback DREW BREES led New Orleans to its first ever road playoff victory (previously 0-5), while expelling doubts about the Saints’ recent road woes with a drive in the closing minutes that led to the winning field goal.

Said New Orleans head coach Sean Payton: ”We traveled pretty well tonight.”

Indeed. Payton’s Super Bowl MVP quarterback showed his championship form when it mattered most and is clearly a leader of men as demonstrated during this pre-game huddle…

The Saints defense stymied Chip Kelly’s potent offense (256 total yards), effectively limiting Philly offensive threats LeSean McCoy (21 carries, 77 yards) and DeSean Jackson (3 catches, 53 yards) to pick up the win.

Road killers: Watson and Graham celebrate winning FG; Payton said his boys weren’t leaving Philly without a win.

Up next, Payton, Brees and their band of Who Dat clansmen head to Seattle to take on the Seahawks and perhaps the greatest home field advantage in the NFL.

If the Saints are gonna come marching into the new year with a bang on the road, they might as well do it big.
