Faulty transmission: Jennings expected a long tutelage under Cheeks. Sunday he found out that won’t happen.

According to confirmed reports, the Detroit Pistons have fired head coach MAURICE CHEEKS. Despite back-to-back wins over the weekend, Pistons GM JOE DUMARS informed Cheeks he was being let go Sunday morning. But nobody informed the team, particularly point guard BRANDON JENNINGS, who tweeted his surprise at the announcement early Sunday…

This, according to Yahoo! Sports:

Cheeks didn’t make it to the All-Star break of his first season as Detroit’s coach. He was in the first year of a two-year contract with the Pistons. Owner Tom Gores had become increasingly impatient with Cheeks, and sources with knowledge of his plans say that he had been pushing for a change in the coaching staff.

Inside sources say Dumars favored giving Cheeks more time to turn the Pistons (21-29) around but apparently was pressured by Gores to make a change.

Jennings, who is also in his first season with Detroit, tweeted his thanks to Cheeks for helping him become a better person and player…

That’s the NBA, folks. If you don’t win, you’re outty. And the media is typically the first to know. So much for keep things in-house, fellas.
