Don’t look now but there is suddenly a rivalry brewing between the Brooklyn Nets and Toronto Raptors…and it’s not really between the two clubs per se. Before Saturday’s Eastern Conference opening round playoff tilt, Raptors GM MASAI UJIRI got on a podium outside Maple Leaf Square in Toronto and told 10,000 screaming fans, “F*#k Brooklyn!”…
Ujiri may be a wizard when it comes to constructing NBA contenders (he was previously the force behind Denver’s ascension in the West during the Melo years), but dude completely spassed with this move. Odd behavior for a executive of his stature.
Yet even before Ujiri’s strange behavior, the Toronto Sun mocked Brooklyn with this Saturday headline:
All this *ish did was fire up the Nets. Paul Pierce in particular as Brooklyn snatched Game 1, 94-87…
Pierce scored nine of his 15 points in the fourth quarter. Note to Toronto: The Truth never, ever gets old.
And not to be outdone, the NY Daily News responded in kind to the Sun’s antics with this Sunday morning headline:
The last thing you wanna do is pick a fight with New Yorkers. Trust! Now if only the Nets and Raptors can get this animated on the court. After Masai and the media set the table, they probably will.
Game 2 of the NBA prehistoric series continues Tuesday.
