While CHRIS PAUL and STEPHEN CURRY fish and RAJON RONDO and RUSSELL WESTBROOK convalesce, steady point guard TONY PARKER is busy leading the San Antonio Spurs towards another potential NBA Finals. On Sunday, Parker dropped in 20 points and dished out 9 assists as the Spurs manhandled Memphis, 105-83 in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals…

When Parker wasn’t carving up the Grizzlies defense (or lack thereof) with precision drives to the hoop, the French Connection was splashing jumpers while slicing and dicing Memphis with dimes to teammates Kahwi Leonard and Danny Green.

At 31, the three-time NBA champion is as focused as ever on getting the Spurs their fifth NBA title during the Tim Duncan era.

The series with Memphis just began and I expect the Grizzlies to be heard from real soon but I think it’s amazing that Team Boring sporting the silver & black remains in the championship hunt year after year.

Credit that to Duncan’s brilliance, head coach Gregg Popovich’s winning style, the Spurs organization and of course, point guard magnifique, Tony Parker.

Ahhh, the perks of living in Miami while also handling your business in the playoffs as the defending NBA world champions. Miami Heat besties DWYANE WADE and LEBRON JAMES were afforded some QT on Miami Beach with friends and family this weekend as they await Indiana’s arrival in town for Wednesday’s Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals…

The Heat have already had a week off after disposing of the Chicago Bulls in five games. They will undoubtedly head into their ECF series with the Pacers well rested and replete with suntan lotion.

A Mel Brooks euphemism suddenly comes to mind when reflecting upon Wade and LeBron’s top shelf lifestyle these days: It’s [apparently] good to be the king.

Once again, the New York Knicks fell short of NBA championship glory losing Game 6 to Indiana, 106-99. This season’s ending was especially disappointing since CARMELO ANTHONY and the Knicks were expected to challenge Miami for Eastern conference supremacy. Instead, that role will go to the Pacers. After Saturday’s defeat, Melo, AMARÉ STOUDEMIRE, J.R. SMITH and IMAN SHUMPERT reflected on a year that began with promise but ended in letdown…

Amaré Stoudemire on playing effectively alongside Melo in the starting line-up:

“We never gave it a chance. I think just the opportunity of allowing [the Knicks] to understand exactly what my style of play is and what I bring to the table is something I think I’ll have to sit down with Coach Woody and express to him.”

Iman Shumpert on the Knicks-Pacers series:

“You never want anybody to be more aggressive than you but [the Pacers] were. The whole series they were.”

J.R. Smith on his future with the Knicks:

“I want to retire a Knick. I don’t wanna go anywhere else. I love it here. I love my teammates, I love my coaches. I was sitting in the locker room looking at my jersey after the game just knowing that I don’t want to be anywhere else except wearing the orange and blue. So we’ll see.”

Carmelo Anthony on the Knicks going forward:

“I think we took some steps forward as a team, as an organization. To win the games that we won, 50-plus games and win our division, to get to this point right now. We had a chance to get to the conference finals, we’ll take that. It’s a learning curve for us and we’ll be back better and stronger next season for sure.”

So New York’s 40-year drought without an NBA title continues. Although the Knicks have a good nucleus in place for the future, the club will have to get younger and establish some type of post presence if it truly wants to be better and stronger next season. And Amaré will have to first return to form as an NBA superstar then find a productive way to co-exist with Melo in the starting line-up second. Keeping J.R. Smith in orange and blue is also paramount.

With all that being said, Miami and Indiana will remain contenders for years to come and Chicago will certainly be back with a healthy squad including a rejuvenated Derrick Rose. Simply put, Melo’s Knicks are definitely on the clock.

DWYANE WADE is full of surprises. On Friday night, Wade stunned a young Miami Heat fan from Coral Gables, FL by attending her senior prom…as her prom date!

Archbishop Coleman Carroll High senior Nicole Muxo invited Wade to attend her senior prom months ago via YouTube but never thought the NBA superstar would actually attend.

D-Wade showed up unannounced around 9:30pm and completely surprised the unsuspecting Muxo as he took the dance floor with the high school senior to resounding cheers from all her peers. Nicole called the experience unforgettable.

“I’m going to remember it forever,” Muxo said. “This was definitely the highlight of my senior year.”

You think? Wade said he was spurred on by Nicole’s persistence. The Heat guard mentioned Muxo asked him several times to attend  yet never gave up asking.

Wade used the experience to drive home an important point in life: “Dream big—you never know what might become of it!” the Miami Heatle wrote via Facebook.

Tru dat, D-Wade. Tru dat.

While Cincinnati Bengals free agent pick-up AARON MAYBIN attempts to jump start a disappointing NFL career that has gone nowhere after four seasons and two teams, the 25-year old former Penn State standout does manage to find structure and equanimity in certainly one area of his life: his art.

Through Instagram, Maybin shared some of his most recent art pieces, giving creative insight into a talented artist who happens to make a living playing football. At least for now. Here are a few of Maybin’s masterpieces…

Maybin’s brilliant use of colors and obvious attention to detail brings forth creative pieces like his ‘Uplifting African Woman with Seeing Eye’ and the streetwise ‘Black King-Bad Girl Rihanna’ as well as engaging portraits of music legends Marvin Gaye and Tupac Shakur. Maybin also conveys the unmitigated fury of the ‘Striped Tiger’ as well.

Considered an NFL bust at this point in his career, Maybin likely gets one final shot to make it in the NFL with the Bengals this fall. The Baltimore, MD native works as hard at his football training as he does his art. Yet experts believe Maybin’s issue is not with his natural talent or work ethic but with his ability (or lack thereof) to grow at the defensive end position as a pro football player.

It remains to be seen whether Aaron Maybin can create a colorful canvas of his NFL career like he does in his design studio. Change of scenery and new surroundings can sometimes make a difference. Either way, there is certainly a spot for him on the palette of impressionable artists.

The one place where there’s very little mayhem for him.

Young folks of the LEBRON JAMES and KOBE BRYANT era—even peeps of the MICHAEL JORDAN era—are not too familiar with the legend that pre-dated them all: JULIUS “DR. J” ERVING. Well, NBA Entertainment looks to get those unfamiliar with the former New York Nets and Philadelphia 76ers star well acquainted with a much anticipated documentary coming next month. Without question, Dr. J was MJ before MJ. Growing up in Sixers country-South Jersey in the 1980′s, I got to experience first hand the impact Erving made in the region as a professional basketball player, NBA superstar and as a man. Julius was the toast of Philadelphia—a city known for devouring its sports figures—and always carried himself with tremendous class and style.

Erving was a two-time ABA champion with the Nets in the 70′s (literally the face of that league) and an NBA champion (finally!) with the Sixers in 1983.

The documentary is entitled, ‘The Doctor’ but I call Julius Erving ‘The Blueprint’ because he brilliantly set the standard by which all other NBA superstars should follow.

The Doctor premieres June 10 on NBA TV.

Little known NFL running back MICHAEL GOODSON just became a lot more familiar for the wrong reasons on Friday. The 25-year old New York Jets recent free agent signee was arrested early Friday morning in New Jersey for possession of weed and a loaded handgun.

According to police, Goodson and a friend who was in the driver’s seat were completely intoxicated while parked on the side of Route 80 in Denville, NJ when authorities approached their SUV.

Goodson was found to be in possession of less than 50 grams of weed and a loaded .45 caliber hand gun containing hollow-point bullets.

Because hollow point bullets can do severe damage to targets, only under special circumstances are they allowed to be carried around in public in the state of New Jersey.

Police authorities also mentioned that both Goodson and his pal were so intoxicated that they were both transported to a local hospital for treatment before their arrest.

Way to jeopardize an opportunity with the Jets, Mr. Goodson. With all the shuffling going on with New York’s roster, the former Oakland Raider was in an excellent position to make his mark with the Jets by competing for the starting running back role. Now dude will face stiff penalties from the law for public drunkenness and possessing unauthorized ammunition as well as a likely suspension from Roger Goodell’s NFL.

Grand opening, grand closing. Smh.

The Memphis Grizzlies advanced to their first-ever Western Conference finals behind the strong play of ZACH RANDOLPH (28 points, 14 rebounds), TONY ALLEN (11 points) and MIKE CONLEY (13 points, 11 assists) as KEVIN DURANT and defending West champs Oklahoma City Thunder were dethroned, 88-84 Wednesday night in OKC…

Strong Memphis defense helped stave off a late Thunder rally as Memphis held on to advance, 4-1.

With Westbrook out, Durant was harassed the entire series by strong Grizzlies defenders.

As anticipated, the Thunder found out just how valuable Russell Westbrook was to their championship plans as Durant was unable to overcome a bad shooting night, scoring 21 points but missing a running jumper with seconds left that would have tied the game. After the game, KD put some perspective on what has become a lost season for OKC.

“We came up short, Memphis made it tough on us all series,” Durant said. “That last play I was just trying to get an open look and I had one, but my shot was too long. It’s tough to lose your last game in the playoffs and down the road we’ll probably look back on this and appreciate these tough times. Sometimes you gotta ride out the storms to get to the sunshine.”

For the Grizzlies, it’s clear, sunny skies ahead as a balanced Memphis club awaits the winner of the Spurs-Warriors series.

Last week I had a premonition that the Grizzlies would rep the West in the NBA Finals. That intuition seems well on its way to fruition.

Whatever plans the Chicago Bulls had on extending their series with the Heat went by the boards Wednesday night in Miami as second-year guard NORRIS COLE ignited a late Heat surge with this left-handed stuff down Main street…

Cole really stepped up in this series against the Bulls, averaging double figures and giving Miami a big boost off the bench as the Heat closed out Chicago, 94-91 in five games.

Cole also picked up the slack for Dwyane Wade this series, who has been dealing with knee issues. But Wade looks like he may be getting his stride back as evidenced on this put back slam…

Indiana looks like they may be the Heat’s opponent in the East finals but if Wade is back to form and Cole continues to contribute the way he has of late, Miami clearly has to be the favorite to reach their third straight NBA Finals.

Clearly, the Heat is on folks.

After nine weeks of fleet footed competition, JACOBY JONES and partner KARINA SMIRNOFF are headed into the homestretch on Dancing With the Stars. The Baltimore Ravens return man put on another prominent performance Tuesday night doing the Lindy Hop…

Jones is simply a natural on the dance floor…despite his slightly noticeable pigeon-toed demeanor.

All three judges were in agreement that Jacoby and Katrina’s performance was outstanding. The couple scored 29/30. Carrie Ann Inaba even gave Jacoby the ultimate kudos.

“Without a doubt, I vote you the No. 1 entertainer of Season 16!” Inaba said.

The finale is up next. Expect Jacoby and Karina to definitely be in the running dancing.

The Indiana Pacers are an extremely effective unit at home especially when GEORGE HILL is contributing offensively. The New York Knicks found that out the hard way on Tuesday after Hill scored 26 points in Indy’s 93-82 victory, staking the Pacers to a commanding 3-1 series lead…

While Paul George had Carmelo Anthony working on offense, Roy Hibbert controlled the paint for the Pacers and Hill provided the scoring punch. Meanwhile, J.R. and Amaré complained and Melo is bummed that the Knicks are now on the brink of elimination.

The Pacers are 7-0 in the playoffs when Hill scores at least 14 points, 0-3 otherwise.

But Hill was just part of the story. The Pacers got balanced scoring from their starters, a huge lift from DJ Augustin (11 points) off the bench, played championship defense against New York (esp. Paul George’s yeoman’s job on Melo) and got solid interior play from Roy Hibbert (6 points, 11 rebs, 3 blocked shots).

Even New York product Lance Stephenson scored 13 points for Indiana, including some timely threes to thwart any ideas of a Knicks comeback.

Now the Knicks must comeback from a 3-to-1 series deficit or deal with another disappointing off season.

Hey Spike…it’s just like Reggie Miller never left, eh?

San Francisco 49ers linebacker PATRICK WILLIS is as countrified as they come. So when the 28-year old native Tennessean discovered he had a slithery intruder at his front stoop in Cali, Willis did what any red-blooded country boy would do: He killed it with his shotgun!

Already a mother of two little boys, Monica thanked her beloved Shannon for a wonderful Mother’s Day as he escorted her to her performance Saturday.

No word yet on whether the Browns are expecting a boy or girl, but SB Skywalker tweeted his exhilaration with the news that he will soon be a daddy again:

There’s nothing worse than a woman scorned. Nineties hip-hop starlet FOXY BROWN is claiming that JAY-Z, her mentor and the man who jump started her rap career, stole her virginity at age 15 and gave her a STD. But that’s just the tip of the Brooklyn Don Diva’s iceberg. Brown also alleges that Hova and former Kansas City Chiefs running back LARRY JOHNSON were f*ck buddies. WTH??

According to Bossip, an alleged Trump Tower worker wrote to the webloid claiming to have seen Johnson frequent the building where Jay has an apartment but has never seen his wifey Beyonce there. The worker even goes as far as to suggest that Johnson lived at the Trump with Jay-Z.

In what was a highly physical affair, the Miami Heat withstood the Bulls rough stampede in Chicago that included 3 technical fouls and one ejection to win Game 3, 104-94 and grab a 2-1 lead in their best-of-seven Eastern semi-final series…

Nate Robinson displayed plenty of Bulls bravado but Game 3 came down to who wanted the ball and the victory more. James’s late dagger sealed it for Miami while all D-Rose could do was watch from the bench.

The depleted Bulls did well to battle the Heat for most of the game, but missing several starters (Luol Deng, Kirk Hinrich and Derrick Rose) to various ailments severely limited Chicago’s bench support. Meanwhile, Miami got a critical contribution off the pine from Norris Cole (18 points, including 3-of-3 from deep) and starter Chris Bosh (20 points, 19 rebounds).

LeBron James was LeBrick James early but came on late with 17 of his 25 points in the second half to lead the Heat.

Miami didn’t get a heck of a lot from Dwyane Wade or Ray Allen but Cole filled in nicely in their stead.

It’s one thing that Miami can play any style, physical or otherwise. But if the Heat can have off games from top scorers like Wade and Allen and still win a playoff game? On the road even? Pat Riley might be ready to cash in on more ‘repeat’ money if that’s the case.

I’m digging the blazer Wade wore after Game 1. It has a seasonal feel to it and is spot-on for tropical Florida. The shirt blouse on the other hand, is an entirely different story. No comment on LeBron’s zebra stripes.

The ‘I Should Have Had a V-8′ jacket with the bright color combo Wade sported after Game 2 is quite different—especially for a bike jacket—but sort of makes an impression nonetheless. Also Miami-friendly. Where Dwyane got the matching shirt though is beyond me. It must have come as a set? Gabrielle Union picked it out? Maybe??

Ummm…Russell Westbrook, there’s general cause to be concerned kid. D-Wade looks like—and I mean looks like—he’s after your NBA weird wardrobe title!

Chicago holds a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference semis going into Wednesday night’s Game 2 in Miami.

All I know is if Chicago does the unfathom-a-BULL and somehow eliminate the Heat there’s going to be a profitable market for Joakim Noah fire extinguishers.

Especially where the wind blows best.

On Saturday, we thought JOAKIM NOAH may have been reaching too much in predicting a Game 7 win on the road at the Brooklyn Nets primarily because the Chicago Bulls were a banged up team missing key players. Well, Noah backed up his prediction and the Bulls players that were available to play contributed mightily in advancing Chicago to the second round…

Noah had the game of his life, passionately scoring 24 points, grabbing 14 rebounds and blocking a career-high six shots as Chicago eliminated Brooklyn, 99-93.

Afterwards, Noah spoke about his performance in Brooklyn and the challenge ahead in Miami versus LeBron James and the Heat…

Showing that he remains at the top of his game despite a year’s absence, FLOYD MAYWEATHER JR. boxed, danced and defensed his way to an unanimous 12-round decision over Robert Guerrero to remain undefeated at 44-0 in his WBC welterweight title fight Saturday night in Las Vegas…

Mayweather was the faster, stronger fighter Saturday, frustrating Guerrero with solid left jabs and effective rights and counters to the head. Much respect was displayed by both fighters after the bout as Floyd retained his WBC welterweight title.

Mayweather, with his father Floyd Sr. back in his corner after a 13-year absence, focused once again on his defense against Guerrero to help lead him to a dominating performance.

“I needed my father tonight,” Mayweather said. “My defense was on point and he told me to stick with my defense and that the less you get hit the longer you last.”

Mayweather boxed a brilliant fight, landing effective right hands that bloodied Guerrero’s face while frustrating the 30-year old boxer with guile and quickness.

“I landed some good shots on him,” Guerrero said. “He’s a great fighter. He’s slick and quick.”

All three judges scored the fight 117-111 in favor of Floyd Mayweather.

The 36-year old Mayweather collected a cool $32 million payday for his services on Saturday and looked so sharp that he could fight again this fall.

“Honestly, Floyd could have danced the whole night,” Floyd Mayweather Sr. said. “There wasn’t anything he couldn’t do in there tonight.”

Chicago Bulls big JOAKIM NOAH is a rather emotional fella. He also believes in his troops despite his Bulls being a battered and beat-up bunch. But the 6-foot-11 power forward/center may have gotten ahead of himself after losing Game 6 when he boldly guaranteed victory Saturday night in Brooklyn in Game 7…

I admire Noah’s bravado and defiant confidence. Plus, he’s right. The Bulls have fought like warriors through injury and sickness as well as limited offensive options during this opening round series against the Nets to arrive at this win-or-go-home Game 7 on the road.

Yet the task will be even harder for Noah and his noble band of fighters Saturday as valuable starting forward Luol Deng remains hospitalized with an illness and will not play. Starting point guard Kirk Hinrich will also miss action due to a bruised left calf.

That little guy standing behind Noah will have to play a huge impact in Game 7 in Brooklyn if Chicago is to have any chance to win and advance.

Not to mention serving as back up to Joakim’s bold guarantee.

The Sumo wrestling match between ZACH “Z-BO” RANDOLPH and BLAKE “KIA” GRIFFIN reached a head (or a neck depending on how you wanna look at it) Friday night in Memphis as the Grizzlies extinguished the Clippers from the playoffs with an ejection-marred 118-105 Game 6 victory…

Randolph, who had been tangling with Griffin the entire series, took the opportunity to apply a full body pin and choke hold to Griffin’s neck area while Kia Sorento struggled to get free of Z-Bo’s grip…

Sort of symbolic since Griffin struggled for most of the series, averaging just 13.2 points on 45.3 per cent shooting in six games compared to Randolph’s 20.8 ppg on 56.8 per cent marksmanship. A choke job if I ever saw one…especially considering L.A. held a 2-0 series lead at one point.

Meanwhile, Randolph and Clipper point guard Chris Paul were both ejected from the game for letting emotions get the best of them. Only Z-Bo’s emotions were of exultation.

CP3′s ouster only served to give him, twin brother Cliff, Kia Griffin and the rest of the Clippers a jump on getting down to Marina Del Rey…

Most of us will never know what it feels like to be a world famous athlete with hundreds upon millions of dollars. And most of us cannot relate to having the burden of being such with money grabbing family members. That is what L.A. Lakers superstar KOBE BRYANT is dealing with these days—besides a surgically repaired Achilles—with his fight to stop his mom, Pamela from auctioning off well over a million dollars in Kobe memorabilia from the early days of his basketball career.

Pamela Bryant received an advance of $450,000 from a South Jersey auction house (which was to go towards building a new home in Arizona) for the right to sell off her son’s old jerseys, varsity letters from high school, championship rings, and trophies. When Bryant found out about the June auction, Kobe in turn issued a cease-and-desist order to the auction house, Goldin Auctions of West Berlin, blocking the sale of his treasured items. Goldin Auctions then sued Bryant citing the potential loss of the advance payment to Bryant’s mother, as well as the loss of a 20 percent commission on auction sales.

Here are some of the items that a Camden federal court must rule on in the case:

Kobe claims he gave those items to his mother out of love. So where is his mom’s love in preserving her son’s belongings as treasured mementos?

Apparently, there isn’t any. Rumor has it that Kobe’s parents were upset that Bryant offered to buy them a house for significantly less than a million dollars yet managed to shell out multimillions for a home for his wife Vanessa’s mother, Sofia Laine. And it’s been well documented that Kobe’s parents don’t much care for Vanessa.

Straight drama in the Bryant family. Smh. I don’t blame Kobe for trying to recover his personal items or for “feeling hurt beyond measure” behind his mom’s actions. What kind of mother would want to sell off her famous son’s treasured memorabilia for personal gain?

A greedy, money-hungry one, apparently.

Apparently, showing support for JASON COLLINS admitting he is gay isn’t widely accepted. Former Green Bay Packers safety LEROY BUTLER found that out after he tweeted his support for the NBA player Monday and later learned his speaking engagement at a local Wisconsin church was abruptly cancelled. Butler tweeted his story on Wednesday…

Sad indeed. Butler told the Milwaukee Sentinel that he is steadfast in his support for inclusion and tolerance of people from various backgrounds, even in sports.

“This is a man’s personal story,” Butler said. “I’ve always been on the record saying if there was a gay person in the Packer locker room, I would have played with them. All I care about is if you can run and jump, and can you win Super Bowls.”

Butler also accused the church’s pastor of bullying him into withdrawing his support for Collins, which the 44-year old Florida native refused to do.

It’s interesting that this church thanked Butler for not revealing who they are during this whole affair.

I think that speaks volumes.

Playing in way-too-familiar surroundings, JAMES HARDEN scored 31 points, including 7-for-9 from beyond the arc, and pulled down 8 rebounds to lead the Houston Rockets to a 107-100 Game 5 victory over the Thunder at OKC…

Every time the Thunder tried to rally, Harden was there to extinguish the threat with strong dribble-drive scores at the goal or red-hot shooting from deep against his former team…

Interestingly, Kevin Martin, the player who replaced Harden off OKC’s bench, shot a woeful 1-for-10 from the field (including 0-for-5 from deep) and only scored 3 points.

The Thunder aren’t in any trouble yet but they may be fearing the beard a bit more as the Rockets head home for Game 6 and a raucous Toyota Center crowd.

Houston, get your fake beards ready.

To signify the supposed “funeral” awaiting the Boston Celtics at Madison Square Garden, the New York Knicks showed up for Game 5 wearing all black but it was the Knicks that were the stiffs as the Celtics stunned New York, 92-86 to force Game 6 back in Boston…

Melo, Felton, Chandler and Shumpert were among the Knicks demonstrating a proposed Celtics “funeral service” on Wednesday when their focus should have been on game preparation instead.

Kenyon Martin’s suggestion that the team show up in all black for the Celtics “service” was a creative idea but Jeff Green (18 points), Kevin Garnett (16 points), Paul Pierce (16 points), Brandon Bass (17 points) and Jason Terry (17 points) left their collective caskets at home. The gesture only demonstrated immaturity on the Knicks part and took the focus away from mentally preparing for battle. Boston is a proud franchise with a rich, winning tradition. The Knicks approach—and horrendous 11-for-38 combined shooting from Carmelo Anthony and J.R. Smith—cost them greatly in Game 5.

Now it’s ‘black’ to Boston for Game 6 Friday. And like Jason Terry said, things are certainly tighter for the Knicks now that the series has been extended.

Melo and crew better focus on baskets instead of caskets in Game 6 or they may be facing sudden death in Game 7.  4real, 4real.

CHARLES BARKLEY is sometimes known for making a right turn from the left lane in his sports analysis yet there are times when Chuck completely gets it right. Such was the case in Barkley’s “Inside the NBA” commentary on the historic news of NBA player JASON COLLINS coming out as a gay man…

Chuck also cleared up reservations I had about the probability that Collins, now a free agent, would find a team to play for in the aftermath of his confession. Ernie Johnson had the same thought question I had.

It would have been interesting to see what a club would do in terms of signing a openly gay athlete if the scenario was slightly different, say if Collins were a more superior player or in the prime of his career.

To me, that would show how far we’ve actually come in tolerance and acceptance in terms of sports.

To Barkley’s final point, I believe he is dead-on as well. Players like Miami Dolphins receiver Mike Wallace shouldn’t be crucified for stating how they feel on the subject. What’s needed in that case is dialogue and discussion not persecution.

Chuck can at times be worth his weight in gold.

They say if you play basketball enough, you’ll eventually get dunked on. No matter who you are. Well, add OKC superstar KEVIN DURANT to the mix. Durant caught a faceful (and the foul) from Rockets guard CARLOS DELFINO during this fastbreak rim attack in the second half of Houston’s 105-103 victory over the Thunder in Game 4 Monday night…

Delfino scored 13 points as the Rockets—minus starting guard Jeremy Lin—staved off elimination to extend their opening round series with OKC to five games. Chandler Parsons led Houston with 27 points, 10 assists and 8 boards.

As for Durant, who totaled 38 points for OKC, things like getting dunked on happens. Not a big deal. Especially when he can dish out a few facials himself…

“You know what’s cooler than dunking on one person? Dunking on TWO people,” Durant responded.

And KD isn’t sweating the loss, either. He knows his squad is still in control of the series.

“Essentially, they did what they were supposed to do — win at home. … What’s the panic about?” Durant said.

That’s KD. Zero worries, zero panic.

Of course, not every athlete is going to be supportive of JASON COLLINS decision to reveal he is gay. Miami Dolphin wideout MIKE WALLACE expressed his views on the subject via Twitter Monday:

Wallace then deleted his tweets 20 minutes later in the face of tremendous backlash for what people perceived as homophobic comments. The 26-year old receiver then tweeted this half-baked apology…

Well, you kind of condemned gays when you typed, “SMH” Mr. Wallace. That’s like saying it’s wrong.

The Dolphins organization released this statement regarding Mike Wallace’s comments:

“Mike Wallace has apologized for his comments, and we have addressed the matter with him. Mike’s comments do not reflect the views of the Miami Dolphins. We believe in a culture of inclusiveness and respect, and any statements to the contrary are in no way acceptable to our organization. We will address the entire team about our policy of inclusion and make sure they all understand the importance of respecting individual choices.”

People have to realize and accept that not everyone has the same sexual orientations. Yet that doesn’t make individuals any less human beings. The problem isn’t in Wallace’s comments. There are many people that feel as Wallace does. It’s in his lack of understanding and tolerance.

Hopefully, Mike Wallace learned something on Monday.

The news of Washington Wizards free agent center JASON COLLINS coming out as the first actively gay professional athlete in the four major US sports has been the buzz around the sports world Monday.

The 34-year old Collins revealed his sexual orientation as the feature cover story in the May 6 issue of Sports Illustrated…

Collins mentions in the SI article that after 12 NBA seasons, including nine playoff appearances and two NBA Finals, the time had come to self-acknowledge who he is. The older of twin brothers also talks about how he came out to his younger brother Jarron, his reaction to the news and how the NBA lockout forced him to have to address his reality.

Player reaction to Collins’s admission was greatly supportive:

I hope that the sports world as a whole is as supportive and respectful of Jason Collins’s decision to admit he is gay. That is a huge step for any professional athlete to take especially one who is still actively competing.

Maybe it will inspire more closeted athletes to step forward.

Hats off to Jason Collins for being a pioneer.

While DERRICK ROSE contemplates a playoff return, his replacement NATE ROBINSON has seized the postseason spotlight for Chicago, leading the Bulls to a commanding 3-1 lead over the Brooklyn Nets highlighted by this 23-point fourth quarter barrage in the Bulls 142-134 double OT Game 4 victory on Saturday…

Nate has been absolutely great for the banged up Bulls averaging 17.3 points on 57% shooting in the series against the Nets.

I’m not sure how Coach Thibodeau will utilize Derrick Rose if he does return and if Chicago does indeed advance to play the Heat but one thing is clear: Nate Robinson is ballin’ and has always possessed the ability to impact games offensively. Nate clearly needs to be the back court focus.

The Bulls would do well to ride his momentum into the second round.

Last week, Chicago Bulls head coach TOM THIBODEAU expressed doubt that DERRICK ROSE would return to the court for the postseason, diffusing speculation of a Rose return for the second round. But now D-Rose’s brother Reggie has again fueled rumors that his brother could be ready for a return against the Miami Heat.

“He has been working hard and getting a lot of shots up every day,” Reggie said. “Most of all, he is getting his mind ready, getting comfortable with his body. I think (his mind) is probably at a good 90 percent now.”

Even Thibodeau seems to be reversing course from his initial comments about his star guard’s return.

“I think anything is possible,” he said.

All the D-Rose return talk coming from all angles could culminate at goal in a playoff run.

So with this latest development, we have an interesting second round scenario brewing on the immediate horizon between the Bulls and Miami Heat, if Chicago can seal the deal versus the Nets. You may recall Chicago was the club that halted Miami’s regular season win streak at 27 games.

Everybody has opinions of whether Rose should return or not—Magic Johnson feels Rose may be putting his career in jeopardy—but ultimately, the decision is his. No one knows what works for Derrick Rose but Derrick Rose.

We’ll see what transpires.

UFC light heavyweight champion JON JONES keeps rolling along, defending his title for a record-tying fifth time with a first-round KO of CHAEL SONNEN in UFC 159 at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J….

With his superior size, Jon Jones manhandled Sonnen to the canvas then used his sharp wrestling skills to pummel his opponent into submission, causing a fight stoppage with 27 seconds left in the first frame.

It took about four minutes for Jones to takedown Sonnen then punch out his challenger with a series of strikes and elbows to the head and body. But then Bones Jones noticed he suffered a broken left toe while pummeling Sonnen on the canvas…

Yikes! That lil’ piggy surely isn’t going to the market anytime soon. Jones’s toe snapped like a twig. Gross.

Jones, who was in such an adrenaline rush during the bout that he didn’t even feel any pain from his broken toe, mentioned he will likely scrap his vacation plans to Jamaica to heal.

“I don’t know, but when my adrenaline calms down, I’m going to be in some pain tonight,” Jones said.

The NBA injury plague has hit again. This time it’s Oklahoma City Thunder point guard RUSSELL WESTBROOK. Westbrook sustained a tear to his lateral meniscus on this play during Game 2 of the Thunder-Rockets opening round series…

Westbrook immediately knew something was wrong with his right knee after Patrick Beverly tried for a steal during a Thunder timeout and didn’t particularly care for the Rocket guard’s antics afterwards.

Needless to say, Westbrook is out indefinitely as his injury requires surgery. The Oklahoma City All-Star will likely miss the remainder of the playoffs putting a tremendous dent in OKC’s title hopes. Kevin Durant was shocked to hear the news…

Because of legal paperwork filed by DWYANE WADE’s estranged ex-wife in their messy divorce case, details have become known about the amount of money D-Wade has been forking over to Siohvaughn Funches-Wade: An eye popping $25,000 a month! And that doesn’t include Siohvaughn’s living and travel expenses, which are estimated to be an additional $10,000-a-month!!

And it get$ even $picer, folks. The money that Wade has already shelled out to his ex (did we mention a $1 million lump sum payment as well?) is expected to be chicken scratch compared to what he is likely to have to pay his ex once the terms and marital assets of his divorce are finalized in Chicago court this July.

Siohvaughn is said to be seeking half of Wade’s NBA fortune—he’s currently making $107 million with the Heat—from the time Dwyane signed with Miami until their divorce. WTH?? And keep in mind it’s D-Wade that has custody of the kids!

Revis Island is now a tropical landscape as the NY Jets completed a trade with Tampa Bay that sent their best player, DARRELLE REVIS, to the Buccaneers for a first-round pick (13th overall) and a conditional fourth-round choice in 2014. But Revis told the N.Y. Daily News that he knew the Jets lied to him about signing a long-term deal to remain with the club and that Jets owner Woody Johnson had no intentions of retaining his services.

“Definitely I feel like I haven’t gotten the truth,” Revis said in a quiet moment after his introductory press conference in Tampa on Monday. “Anybody can sit here and tell you to your face, ‘Yeah, you’re going to be a Jet.’ But what’s the truth out of it? What’s really true?

“I know it’s a lie,” Revis added. “Woody don’t want to talk to me. Let’s just be real. He didn’t want to talk to me. He stayed as far away as he could.”

Revis sat down with ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio to discuss the trade to Tampa Bay…

Revis stands to make $96 million over six years with his new deal. Although there is no guaranteed money terms on his contract, the 27-year old Revis will earn $16 million in each year of the new deal as he is finally paid as the best cover corner in football.

Obviously, Revis’s recent ACL injury figured in Johnson’s decision to forgo a lucrative long-term deal for Revis. But I don’t know how smart the Jets were in parting ways with the best player on their roster.

That decision may ultimately cost the Jets…and maybe even cost head coach Rex Ryan his job.

Driven: J.R. may take a backseat to Melo in New York, but his contributions will drive the Knicks this postseason.

Every great leader needs an equally great contributor to compliment his talents during a title chase. J.R. is definitely that guy off the bench for Melo and the Knicks.

There’s nothing like a lil’ long-in-the-tooth experience and know-how in the playoffs. “Old Man River” ANDRE MILLER, at the ripe young age of 37, showed the Denver Nuggets just how valuable an asset that can be with an outstanding 28-point, 5-assist performance in Denver’s 97-95 Game 1 win over the Golden State Warriors…

Miller motorin’: Andre used a deceptive dribble-drive to his left to throw off his defenders as he changed course and laid the ball up on his right to win the game.

Miller said his game-winning drive and lay-up with just 1.2 seconds left was the result of plenty of rest before the playoffs, with “some icing and some jacuzzi” mixed in. The rest was just 14 years of NBA experience.

I imagine it’s back to the ice and jacuzzi for Miller as Denver prepares for Game 2 on Wednesday.

That’s the good thing about being an older player in the NBA playoffs: You have time to rest and recover with zero back-to-backs.

That’s capitalizing on plenty of Miller-Time, I would imagine.

Say what you will about CARMELO ANTHONY and his less-than-stellar 17-37 career postseason record. Dude is focused and dialed to begin this postseason, scoring 36 points and grabbing 6 rebounds in a 85-78 Game 1 victory over the Boston Celtics on Saturday…

Melo-drama: Anthony has been on an absolute tear during the second half of the season and is carrying his hot streak into the playoffs as Boston’s Jeff Green can attest.

Whether it’s his lethal mid-range jay, dagger deep trey or his overpowering moves in the post; whether it’s a slender Jeff Green or a bulky Brandon Bass trying to guard him, Melo simply couldn’t be stopped. Boston had no answers!

It’s just Game 1 but Carmelo Anthony is clearly a force to be reckoned with this entire postseason for the New York Knicks. By now, Boston absolutely has the memo.

I look for that Melo career postseason record to undergo a major upgrade in the weeks and months to come.

A week after the Super Bowl, Kaepernick worked out with several teammates at CES Performance near Atlanta. That’s how serious he is about improving and finishing the job left undone against the Ravens.

Personally with his cannon arm and nimble legs, I think Colin Kaepernick already is the complete package. And next season, dude will be poised to unwrap all the goodies.

Here’s a bit of news 16 years late. Remember MICHAEL JORDAN’s legendary “flu game” against Utah—Game 5 of the 1997 NBA Finals? The contest where Jordan overcame illness to drop the game-winner in a 38-point effort? Well, MJ’s former trainer, renowned adviser TIM GROVER, says Jordan didn’t have the flu at all. Grover says His Airness was poisoned with bad pizza! Here’s what Grover told ESPN’s TrueHoop TV in a recent interview:

We were in Park City, Utah, up in a hotel. Room service stopped at like nine o’clock. He got hungry and we really couldn’t find any other place to eat. So we said eh, the only thing I can find is a pizza place. So we says all right, order pizza.

We had been there for a while. Everybody knew what hotel. Park City was not many hotels back then. So everyone kind of knew where we were staying.

So we order pizza.

Five guys came to deliver this pizza.

I take the pizza and I tell them: “I’ve got a bad feeling about this. … I’ve just got a bad feeling about this.”

Out of everybody in the room, [MJ] was the only one who ate. Nobody else had it.

And then 2 o’clock in the morning I get a call to my room. Come to the room. He’s curled up in the fetal position. We’re looking at him, finding the team physician at that time.

Immediately I told him it’s food poisoning.

Not the flu.

Very interesting even though it’s all water under the bridge at this point. But I wouldn’t put it past certain fools in Utah to attempt to give their Jazz any edge they possibly could back then. Even committing something as diabolical as attempted food poisoning of an opposing player.

Didn’t matter though. Jordan’s resiliency was too much even for tainted pizza. If that is indeed what went down.

I feel like this whole Jordan flu affair has turned into an urban legend. Don’t you?

It appears CARMELO ANTHONY will win this season’s NBA scoring title. KEVIN DURANT, who needed to score 70 points against Milwaukee tonight to overtake Melo, is, like the Knicks superstar, sitting out the last regular season game of the year instead.

Some folks are upset that Durant is not even making an attempt at his fourth straight scoring title but the Thunder superstar has a message for those disgruntled lip pokers via Instagram…

Get over it! Durant and his OKC teammates have bigger fish to fry than KD winning a mere scoring title. For one, dude will win many more scoring titles in the future. I don’t think anyone doubts that. Two, what are the odds that he scores 70 points in the final regular season game anyways?

Why even bother? Durant has his Sniper Jones aim focused on the NBA title that eluded him a year ago as he should.

That would be a far greater score to settle.

Former NFL player and Hall of Fame broadcaster PAT SUMMERALL, the familiar and distinctive voice of the NFL for more than 40 years, has passed away at the age of 82, according to the Associated Press.

Fox Sports spokesman Dan Bell said Tuesday that Summerall had died. Bell could not immediately provide further details. Summerall had been ill off and on in his later years and had a liver transplant in 2004.

Summerall was part of network television broadcasts for 16 Super Bowls. His last championship game was for Fox on Feb. 3, 2002, also his last game with longtime partner John Madden. The popular duo worked together for 21 years, moving to Fox in 1994 after years as the lead team for CBS. Here is one of my favorite Summerall intros from the 1992 NFC Championship Game…

Summerall played 10 NFL seasons as a placekicker (1952-61) with the Chicago Cardinals and New York Giants. He started doing NFL games for CBS in 1964. He also covered the PGA Tour and tennis.

Like Madden said, Summerall will always be remembered as the voice of football.

Monday’s tragic and senseless two-bomb explosion at the Boston Marathon serves as a constant reminder—lest we forget—of the violent, destructive world in which we now live. Three people lost their lives—including an eight-year old boy—and more than 170 individuals were injured, many losing their limbs in the double blast.

Kristle’s mom characterized her daughter as having a heart of gold and always wearing a smile.

Among those who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time: 29-year old KRISTLE CAMPBELL, who was attending the marathon in support of her boyfriend, died from injuries sustained in the explosion and young MARTIN RICHARD, a third grader who was at the race with his dad Bill, killed when he doubled back to join his sister at the time of the explosions.

Bill Richard, whose family suffered through injuries to himself, his wife and daughter (who lost her leg) as well, issued the following statement about his lost son:

“My dear son Martin has died from injuries sustained in the attack on Boston. My wife and daughter are both recovering from serious injuries.

“We thank our family and friends, those we know and those we have never met, for their thoughts and prayers. I ask that you continue to pray for my family as we remember Martin. We also ask for your patience and for your privacy as we work to simultaneously grieve and recover. Thank you.”

Completely senseless and despicable act. Whether committed by some sophisticated terrorist group or misguided amateur guerillas, the persons responsible for Monday’s carnage in Boston are nothing more than arrogant cowards too ignorant to realize they only succeeded in showing how sub-human they really are.

Heartfelt prayers go out to the victims in Boston.

It appears Mediatakeout isn’t about to let up on outing KERRY RHODES as potentially gay. On Monday, the webloid posted more pics of the NFL free agent and alleged assistant ‘Hollywood’ on vacay in the Caribbean. This time with Rhodes planting a kiss on his former business associate…

Additional photos of Kerry and Hollywood raises MTO suspicions about Rhodes’s sexuality despite his denials as do “suggestive” photoshoots the NFL star has partaken.

Last week, Rhodes responded to initial photos posted by Mediatakeout saying he is not gay and that the pics were taken in a casual setting some time ago while vacationing with his entire business team.

The folks at Mediatakeout obviously doubt that, revealing that Rhodes’s former assistant (in cynical quotations) is openly gay…

This probably goes without saying but Knicks sharpshooter J.R. SMITH is going to get another tattoo if New York breaks its 40-year title drought and wins the NBA championship this spring.

“If we win a championship, I’ll definitely get it,’’ Smith told The New York Post. “Other than that, I’m not sure yet.’’

Smith isn’t sure yet because he already has 100 tattoos across his body…and that includes his legs and calves. J.R. has used up practically all of his body real estate. But if the Knicks taste championship champagne, Smith will find room for tat No. 101.

A Yankees and NJ Devils fan (with tats to prove it), the New Jersey native surprisingly hasn’t committed to an NBA team on his body…if you fail to count the Michael Jordan jersey tattoo Smith has on his stomach.

The MJ tat is in homage to his favorite player more than anything else. A Knicks title marking definitely seems likely given the obvious role J.R. will play in making it possibly happen this postseason.

Knicks followers like to compare Smith to former Knicks chucker John Starks. J.R. will have to be unStarks-like in the clutch during these upcoming playoffs if he indeed wants to win a championship and spray new ink.

New York Knicks AMARÉ STOUDEMIRE and CARMELO ANTHONY made the journey across the bridge with their families to show support for this year’s rising stars…

The event featured games among tomorrow’s stars in international, regional and All-American competition. In the All-American game, Jabari Parker (committed to Duke) and Julius Randle (headed to Kentucky) were named Co-MVPs as top Jordan Brand athlete Carmelo Anthony posed with both players at center court after the game…

Word has it that Barclays Center has reached a multi-year agreement to host the Jordan Classic, giving up-and-coming high school stars an opportunity to showcase their talents to a capacity audience.

If you don’t know by now (you must live on Uranus if you don’t), KOBE BRYANT is the consummate professional. A man that puts his heart and soul—and then some—into his craft. So when Bryant decided to vent his frustration on Facebook to the social masses about the stark reality that his season (and possibly his career) may be over, a certain amount of understanding is in order…

After accepting his fate of a season-ending Achilles tear, Bryant appears to be refocusing his energies around rehab and recovery with the same maniacal tenacity and determination that has made him a 15-time All-Star and 5-time NBA champion.

Those who can appreciate the dedication and commitment Kobe Bryant makes on a nightly basis for the Lakers must also acknowledge his iconic status to the game of basketball itself. As fans of the game, we are all impacted by his time laden injury.

This year’s National Cherry Blossom Festival took place Saturday in downtown Washington with Redskins wideout and D.C. area native JOSHUA MORGAN performing the honors as Grand Marshal…

The annual event officially welcomes in the spring season to the nation’s capital as Washington’s cherry trees begin to blossom near the Potomac.

Morgan, who was recently named Walter Payton “Man of the Year” by the Redskins for his diligent work in the community and on the field of play, grew up rooting for the Redskins and is now living out his childhood dream of playing for his favorite team.

The 27-year old Morgan had a pedestrian season catching passes as Washington’s No. 2 receiver in 2012.

Can you imagine the love Josh Morgan would receive in D.C. if he turns in a career year for the Redskins in 2013?

They may have to find a cabinet seat for dude in the White House.

The dreaded injury bug is also rearing its ugly head in baseball. Toronto Blue Jays shortstop JOSE REYES is the latest casualty, injuring his left ankle while sliding into second on a stolen-base attempt Friday in Kansas City…

Reyes couldn’t decide whether to slide or go in standing up while stealing second and his late slide caused him to land awkwardly, gruesomely twisting his ankle beneath him.

In tears and obvious pain, Reyes was carted off the field with what is believed to be a serious ankle sprain. MRI results are pending.

Best case scenario, Reyes could be back playing in a month. Worse case? Dude could be out significantly longer depending on the severity of the sprain. If in fact that is what it is.

Reyes was looking so forward to a fresh start with Toronto this season. After composing himself in the clubhouse, the 29-year old Reyes tweeted this upbeat response:

Stay positive, Jose. Let’s hope Reyes has quick and speedy recovery.

In the midst of a final playoff push, after a horrendous start to the year and subsequent season resurrection, the Los Angeles Lakers have likely lost the one player they could not afford to lose: KOBE BRYANT.

Battling through injury and pain all season, Bryant fell to the court with 3:08 left in the fourth quarter Friday night in a tight contest against the Warriors, clutching his left calf in pain. Unable to finish the game, Bryant sank two crucial free throws before heading to the lockerroom to attend to his injured ankle. After the game, a visibly dejected Bryant addressed the media with the grim news…

The Lakers pulled out the win, 118-116 to inch closer to a possible playoff berth but would soon learn the probable result of Kobe’s injury. Bryant likely suffered a season-ending tear in his Achilles tendon, by far the most serious injury of his career.

Purple and Gold Warrior: Bryant logged heavy minutes down the stretch trying to will the Lakers into the playoffs, placing a tremendous burden on his body. His Achilles injury dampens the Lakers playoffs hopes but more importantly threatens to end Kobe’s career.

Forget about the season. Forget about even the playoffs. This could very well be the the type of setback that ends Kobe Bryant’s 17-year career.

They say injuries are part of the game and indeed they are. But they can also be a cruel reminder of the tremendous physical toll athletes endure when it comes to playing and competing at an ultra high level. Amaré Stoudemire. Rajon Rondo. Danilo Gallinari. Danny Granger. Anthony Davis. Now the game’s greatest competitor, Kobe Bryant. This has been a particularly brutal year for the NBA in regards to season-ending injuries.

If anyone can comeback from a torn Achilles, Bryant can. But make no mistake: Kobe’s season is likely over. This is now about salvaging what is left of a brilliant Lakers career for the 34-year old Bryant.

The NBA has fined KEVIN DURANT for what they term “a menacing gesture” during Thursday night’s Thunder-Warriors game. The “infraction” occurred late in the second quarter following a RUSSELL WESTBROOK rejection that led to this Durantula of a dunk…

So NBA policeman and Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Stu Jackson is saying Durant yelling is cool but that slashing motion that KD displays next is excessive behavior? GTHOH!!!

The teams weren’t even chippy with each other. It was just a “show of emotion” which is sold in the NBA playoffs promos. This was absolutely nothing compared to the jawing going on in the Knicks-Bulls contest.

But this part of today’s David-Ridiculously-STERN league.

By now you’ve probably heard about the Dodgers-Padres bench clearing brawl that took place Thursday night at Petco Park when Dodgers pitcher ZACK GREINKE hit Padres batter CARLOS QUENTIN in the shoulder with a pitch…

Well, tempers continued to flare after the game when Dodgers outfielder MATT KEMP caught up to Quentin in the ballpark hallway…

Words were exchanged between Kemp and Quentin but the two were separated by officials before the altercation heightened. Kemp evidently likes to stir up the pot. You think??

Apparently, Quentin has a history of getting plunked by Greinke and once Greinke popped *ish on the mound after the pitch, it was on like popcorn.

Kemp was likely sticking up for his teammate Greinke, who suffered a fractured collarbone and will be out of action indefinitely. Dodgers manager Don Mattingly was infuriated after learning he had just lost his starting pitcher out of his rotation.

The Padres visit Dodger Stadium for a three game set on Monday.

Payback may well be in order.

It’s been more than a year since AMARÉ STOUDEMIRE lost what to him has always been his rock while growing up, his guardian angel: older brother Hazell. Hazell Stoudemire died in a car accident on February 6, 2012 and Amaré has been crying ever since.

Sometimes I think folks in New York take Stoudemire’s talent for granted. This guy is as dedicated to his craft and to winning as any athlete anywhere. But lately, his problem has been staying healthy.

There are those who believe Stoudemire wasn’t worth the $100 million free agency contract the Knicks paid him a few years ago and there may be some truth to that if you consider the microfracture knee surgery he was coming off of at the time.

But trust…if this guy can ever get right physically, the Knicks will have a beast on their hands. The player they envisioned when they signed him three years ago.

And if Hazell has anything to do with it (and I’m sure Amaré is convinced he does), that will eventually come to pass.

Novak’s discount-double check belt celebration is a fixture with the Knicks. Apparently, it has become a more exaggerated one with Nate.

Technicals were handed out to Robinson, Carmelo Anthony, Jimmy Butler and Luol Deng during the game just to demonstrate the amount of jawing that goes on when these two clubs get together.

A possible second-round playoff meeting between the Knicks and Bulls isn’t out of the question. If that happens, that will surely be one series worth watching.

Leave it to Mediatakeout to attempt to drag out potential gays from the closet. With the recent talk around the NFL that several players may prepare to “come out” about their sexuality, the controversial webloid yesterday revealed vacation pics of free agent safety KERRY RHODES and one of his male friends enjoying each other’s company, stirring up speculation that Rhodes may be one of the league’s closeted players.

On Wednesday, Mediatakeout posted these private vacation photographs of Rhodes and another man enjoying their time together in tropical paradise…

Although Mediatakeout points out that it isn’t jumping to conclusions about Rhodes, the webloid is definitely hopping to a suggestion regarding Rhodes’s sexual orientation.

But Rhodes recently responded to the speculation, telling TMZ: “Photos have been circulating of my former assistant and I that have caused some rumors regarding my sexuality, and I wanted to address the situation.”

Rhodes then flatly denied the innuendo.

“I am not gay, ” he said. “The shots were taken during a past vacation in a casual environment with my entire business team.”

So there you have it. Whether Rhodes is being truthful or concealing the truth really shouldn’t matter. It shouldn’t change how we view Kerry Rhodes. But the homophobic society in which we live (esp. in regards to sports) says otherwise.

To which I say, can we just live people? Geeesh.

While injuries continue to be taboo around the NBA, L.A. Lakers forward METTA WORLD PEACE has not allowed being hurt to be a factor with him. Playing in his first game Tuesday versus the Hornets just 12 days after knee surgery, MWP explains why a torn meniscus in his knee is no match for him…

Metta came off the bench to score 4 points in 15 minutes of action as the Lakers bounced the Hornets, 104-96.

Who knows wth World Peace means by being “too sexy for his cat.” I don’t even want to speculate. But his healing powers are apparently amazing—Kobe compared him to the Xmen’s Wolverine—as his type of injury typically takes at least six weeks to heal.

We’ll see if Metta’s return can tip the playoff scale in the Lakers favor as L.A. battles Utah for the last and final postseason spot out West with just four games to go.

The New York Knicks are streaking—winners of 13 straight—and Atlantic Division champs for the first time since 1994 with a lopsided 120-99 win over Washington on Tuesday but forward KENYON MARTIN literally fell victim to a sprained ankle in the fourth quarter…

The concern is written all over Carmelo Anthony and Iman Shumpert’s faces.

Martin had been the defensive glue for the Knicks, providing them with toughness and rebounding during their injury bug stretch with their bigs. Now he is hurt.

The good news is it’s just a sprain. Martin should recover quickly. But the specter of possible injury continues to hang over the aging Knicks as they prepare to make a title run this month.

But staying in the moment, NYK tied the club record for most threes (20) in a game Tuesday…

I like the Knicks playoff chances in the East if they can somehow stay healthy. But that is a big “if.”

We’ll see if New York can continue to play right and remain upright.

And with Katrina’s coaching, Jacoby may wind up winning this thing. He definitely sees an opening seam down the field and is running dancing with the ball in open space.

As you can see, his dad was awfully proud during that shining moment.

Monday night’s national championship game was one for the ages as RICK PITINO’s Louisville Cardinals fulfilled their destiny to become college basketball’s best team, defeating Michigan, 82-76. But it wasn’t a gimme as the Wolverines and a freshman fella named Spike gave the Cards all they could handle.

Clockwise (LtoR): Behanan goes beast mode with this two hand slam; Burke slithers past shot-blocker supreme Gorgui Dieng for two; Brooklyn’s own Russ Smith struggled early but settled down to contribute late; A dejected Burke walks away as Louisville celebrates a title; Peyton Siva was big for the Cards but Hancock won game honors; Kevin Ware got a leg up to cut down the nets as Pitino becomes the first coach to win a championship at two different schools.

The game featured a scintillating start by Michigan, getting out to a 12-point first half lead behind the unbelievable and unexpected shooting of back-up point guard Spike Albrecht after college player of the year Trey Burke was sidelined with early foul trouble.

But the Cardinals had a weapon off the bench of their own in sharpshooter Luke Hancock, who ignited Louisville on a 14-3 run to end the first half trailing by one. Hancock scored 22 huge points (5-of-6 from the field, including 5-of-5 from three) and was named Most Outstanding Player.

In the second half, Louisville controlled the boards with Chane Behanan (15 pts, 12 rebs) leading the charge. His two free throws with 6:10 left gave the Louisville a lead it would not relinquish the rest of the way.

Besides from Trey Burke returning to form (24 points), Albrecht and Hancock dueling from deep, Behanan beastin’ in the paint, Tim Hardaway’s up, up and away slam dunk and generally guys on both teams going full tilt for 40 minutes, what else could you want in a national title game?

Absolutely nothing. Label this one an instant classic.

Louisville Cardinals coach RICK PITINO knows his team is heavily favored to win the national championship Monday night in Atlanta. Yet the HOF coach wanted his club to understand the significance of this title opportunity that the Cards have before them by pointing out the example set by NC State and Jim Valvano in 1983…

The ESPN documentary “Survive and Advance” was indeed a tear jerker but more than that, it was a testimony to the unique bond shared by student-athletes in pursuit of a common goal: the national championship. Like Pitino says and the film demonstrates, those are memories these players will share for the rest of their lives.

That’s what makes tonight’s game so special. One team has a date with eternity.

Will it be Louisville or Michigan? We’ll find out soon enough.

Monday night, Michigan goes after its first national championship since JALEN ROSE and CHRIS WEBBER helped lead the Wolverines to the title game versus North Carolina twenty years ago. Many of the members of that Fab Five team plan to be on hand to support their alma mater at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. All except Chris Webber, that is.

So during an appearance on ESPN’s “Mike & Mike” morning show, Rose issued a challenge to his former Fab Fiver to join him, Juwan Howard, Jimmy King and Ray Jackson at the game.

“I could understand if he was homeless and living under a bridge,” Rose mentioned on the show but Webber lives in Atlanta and works for the host network, he noted.

Twenty years ago, C-Webb and Jalen made a run at the national title. That was their time.

Webber has been estranged from Michigan since a booster scandal stung the school with sanctions, which included banning him from contact with the program for 10 years. That ban officially ends next month, but Webber could attend tonight’s game as a fan.

Webber has been adamant in his disdain towards Michigan, feeling the school and the NCAA made him out to be the villain in the whole affair while shortchanging him and his teammates during the Fab Five’s run. Rose thinks C-Webb should leave the past behind and attend the game.

But Webber appears determined not to attend, choosing not to take the focus off this year’s national title finalists by tweeting this response:

I understand Jalen’s attempt at a Michigan reunion-support system but I’m with C-Webb on this. Not only will Webber and the rest of the Fab Five be somewhat of a distraction to the Michigan team but more importantly, Chris intends on sticking to his principles. He believes that despite the college education trade off, the system exploits college athletes.

And honestly, it does.

Yet I wonder how much calling a certain timeout against North Carolina that he did not have contributes to C-Webb not wanting to attend Monday night’s game.

That’s got to bring back unpleasant memories as well.

Lol! Leave it to Captain Jack to put this nonsense in it’s proper perspective especially since I don’t see Forbes doing a Top 10 Overpaid Bankers or Corporate CEOs list. Now that’s some real *ish right there. Anyways, here’s the list:

I’m not sure if TIM HARDAWAY Jr. inherited his dad’s killer crossover move, but he and the Michigan Wolverines have crossed over everyone in making it to the national championship game, upending Syracuse, 61-56 in the national semifinal on Saturday. Hardaway Jr., who led Michigan with 13 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists, talked about making it to his first championship final and the team’s first since the Fab Five’s run in 1993…

As a junior, Hardaway Jr. is the elder statesman on a Wolverine club that starts three freshmen—Glenn Robinson III, Mitch McGary and Nik Stauskas—which garners plenty of comparisons to the Fab Five.

Yet this group of Michigan upstarts are far more than five fabulous players. The Wolverines got solid contributions from their bench on Saturday with LeVert, Albrecht, Morgan and Horford combining for 21 points versus Syracuse.

The guard match-up of Hardaway and Trey Burke versus Louisville’s vaunted pressure will be must-see TV for Monday’s national championship.

Btw…doesn’t Hardaway Jr. look like a cross between his daddy and Chris Rock?

The Atlanta Braves had much more in mind than orchestrating a family reunion between B.J. UPTON and younger brother JUSTIN UPTON when they acquired both players over the off season. The club had things like “lethal combination” and “World Series return” on the brain. On Saturday, the Uptons provided a microcosm of possible things to come for the Braves this season by erasing a one-run deficit with a pair of ninth-inning home runs that gave the Braves a 6-5 win over the Cubs on Saturday night at Turner Field…

B.J. opened the bottom of the ninth inning with a solo shot that tied the game and gave him his first home run as a Brave. Two batters later, Justin added to the greatness of his first week in Atlanta with a walk-off shot that soared over the center field wall.

The first brothers to hit a home run in the same inning since Cal and Billy Ripken did it with the 1996 Orioles, the Uptons are also the first brothers in Major League history to hit a game-tying and walk-off home run in the same inning.

“To have a night like tonight, where I hit the home run to tie it and he hits the one to win it, that is new to me,” B.J. said afterwards. “It’s a pretty good feeling.”

Just imagine how B.J. and Justin’s parents feel right about now.

There’s been a lot of reaction to the scandalized mess that took place at Rutgers this past week. Even NBA players like LEBRON JAMES and RAY ALLEN (to name a few) have chimed in on the physical abuse displayed by ousted head coach Mike Rice towards his players. But there’s one ominous NBA player who says he wouldn’t have taken such treatment like that from any coach: Sacramento Kings big DEMARCUS COUSINS. Now why doesn’t that come as a surprise??

If you know anything about Cousins, you know he is one S.O.B. (Son of a Bawl) volatile player. Dude picks up techs like Jay-Z picks up clout and Cousins gets on coaches’ bad side like its going out of style.

Actually, I’d pay to see a Mike Rice-DeMarcus Cousins hothead confrontation. That *ish would be better than Mayweather-Pacquiao.

And waaay more comical.

Believe it or not, controversy is brewing over something another athlete has said on Twitter. This time, Buffalo Bills wideout STEVIE JOHNSON is under fire for making a comment about the recent bombing threat issued by North Korean Supreme Leader KIM JONG UN against the United States. After Johnson told North Korea to “chill out with that Nuke talk,” he then made light of the issue with the Bills nemesis to the North:

Almost immediately, Johnson was bombarded (pun intended) with insults, threats and racist statements for what he termed harmless AFC East rivalry banter:

Johnson then issued somewhat of an apology to Patriots fans in the aftermath of heavy backlash…

There are times when social media backlash is good. Like in the case of former Rutgers coach Mike Rice being fired for his actions. But then there are times when it overshoots the seriousness of an incident…like with Johnson’s comment.

Despite the seriousness of current world events, Johnson’s statement was clearly just Bills-Patriots rivalry talk. Johnson took it all in stride however, tweeting this response to the controversy:

In news that is neither sporty, sexy nor cool, former NBA guard JAVARIS CRITTENTON was indicted Tuesday for his involvement with the 2011 death of a 22-year old Atlanta woman and the attempted murder of another young man.

The 25-year old Crittenton—who had stints with the Lakers, Grizzlies and Wizards—was indicted for his connection with the shooting death of Julian Jones, a mother of two who police say was an innocent victim of gang-related violence stemming from Crittenton being robbed of $50,000 in jewelry. Douglas Gamble, Crittenton’s cousin, was also indicted on twelve counts for the retaliation murder and attempted murder.

You may recall Crittenton being one of the key perpetrators in bringing firearms into the Wizards locker room along with Gilbert Arenas after a gambling dispute four years ago. Needless to say, Crittenton’s NBA career was shot (pun intended) after that incident.

The former Georgia Tech star had a golden opportunity in pro sports and blew it. Now he faces the very real possibility of a long prison sentence. According to his lawyers, Crittenton will plead not guilty. A trial date has yet to be set.

Accompanied by Dodgers star outfielder Matty Kemp and fully engaged in the baseball action, Lil Chris has become somewhat of an L.A. pop icon himself next to his famous daddy.

In typical humble, classy fashion, Paul tweeted his thanks to the Dodgers for the honor of throwing out the first pitch:

It took an avalanche of media exposure and pressure as well as stinging criticism from New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, but Rutgers University has fired head basketball coach MIKE RICE Wednesday following video footage showing Rice shoving, grabbing and throwing balls at players in practice and using gay slurs.

Athletic director Tim Pernetti, who initially issued Rice with a 3-game suspension and $50,000 fine for his actions, made this statement after Rice’s firing Wednesday.

“I am responsible for the decision to attempt a rehabilitation of Coach Rice,” Pernetti said. “Dismissal and corrective action were debated in December and I thought it was in the best interest of everyone to rehabilitate, but I was wrong. Moving forward, I will work to regain the trust of the Rutgers community.”

Pernetti’s “corrective action” that he felt was in the best interest of everyone clearly wasn’t in the best interest of the young men involved or the university as a whole. Irreparable damage has been done to an already weak recruiting program in terms of establishing confidence in landing quality talent going forward. Not to mention the type of message this sends to young people and their parents. Pernetti should be disciplined as well for his role in all this.

But now at least the punishment fits the crime.

ESPN’s “Outside The Lines” has obtained disturbing video footage of Rutgers head basketball coach MIKE RICE verbally abusing his players during practice. Check this out:

There is absolutely no place in collegiate sports for this kind of behavior. Yet as appalling as Rice actions were, his three-game suspension and $50,000 fine were even more appalling. And what’s even worse, Rutgers fired assistant coach Eric Murdock when he complained to AD Tim Pernetti about Rice’s inappropriate behavior.

Being a Rutgers alum, this story makes me angry as all hell. Pernetti is clearly protecting his coach in this matter and both deserve pink slips for their roles in this farce. Rice for his behavior among his players and Pernetti for attempting to “look his buddy out” with a slap on the wrist.

And we RU alums wonder why top recruits don’t want to play at Rutgers and why our team cannot win. We have idiots like Rice and Pernetti running things in the ground. Smh.

Reigning NFL MVP ADRIAN PETERSON, who recently spent time over Easter in Washington, D.C., boldly answered an idiotic question when queried by the Razzi on gay players and the NFL on a D.C. street…

Peterson supplied the TMZ paparazzi reporter with a great answer to a doubly dumb question when asked if he thought the first gay player to come out in the NFL will be white or black. Peterson replied, “Could be Hispanic, could be an Asian…never know.”

Does it matter that the person is white or black? Or even gay? What does matter is that this goofy Razzi reporter stumbled and fell like a complete buffoon during the interview!

Seems rather appropriate, I’d say.

Finally, Lakers exec Jeannie Buss honored Shaq with a fitting tribute speech, calling the Diesel first and foremost a Laker and a champion before unveiling  his No. 34 among the various Laker greats:

Joined by his family, Shaq thanked his mom, the late Jerry Buss and family and his father Sgt. Philip Harrison for their love and support over the years and for inspiring him to greatness.

Shaq was literally larger than life as a Laker and thoroughly loved by Los Angelenos everywhere.

Watching the way the Lakers organization paid homage to O’Neal for what he’s done in L.A. reminded me of a certain Bruce Springsteen song: We Take Care of Our Own.

The Buss Family certainly did as much Tuesday night.

Yet Louisville galvanized themselves in the second half and soundly defeated Duke 85-63 to reach the Final Four. After the game, Ware’s teammates paid a visit to the hospital and brought with them a special present for him: the Midwest Regional trophy and his championship tee.

Louisville now heads into the Final Four with yet another motivating factor: playing for their fallen teammate. As for Ware, two-hour emergency surgery to set his broken leg was successful and doctors say there is a very good chance Ware will play basketball again at a high level – but it’s going to take some time and aggressive rehabilitation.

In the meantime, Kevin Ware will be cheering for his Cardinals teammates to cut down the nets next week in his hometown of Atlanta.

After Sunday’s freakish occurrence, odds are they will.
